On 24–25 June 2026, the National Erasmus+ Office in the Kyrgyz Republic, in cooperation with the Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) team, organised the online seminar “Enhancing Practice-Oriented and Interdisciplinary Learning through Digital Tools in Higher Education.”
The seminar brought together academic staff, programme coordinators, curriculum developers, quality assurance specialists, representatives of teaching and learning centres, Erasmus+ project teams, HERE members, and other stakeholders from higher education institutions across Kyrgyzstan. The event aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of European approaches to the pedagogically meaningful integration of digital tools into higher education and to promote practice-oriented, project-based, and interdisciplinary learning.
Day 1: Digital Tools as Enablers of Practice-Oriented and Interdisciplinary Learning
The seminar opened with welcome remarks from the National Coordinator of the Erasmus+ Programme in Kyrgyzstan, who outlined the objectives of the two-day programme and emphasised the importance of digital transformation in higher education.
The first keynote session, delivered by the Associate Professor of Smart Factories at the University of Calabria (Italy), focused on the digital transformation of teaching and learning in higher education. Participants explored current European trends in digitalisation, the shift from technology-centred to pedagogy-driven approaches, and the role of digital tools in supporting practice-oriented and interdisciplinary education.
The second session introduced the experience of the ERASMUS+ KA220-HED LEONARDO project. The speaker shared practical examples of implementing innovative digital solutions in higher education, highlighting successful practices, lessons learned, challenges encountered, and recommendations for universities seeking to strengthen digitally-enhanced teaching and learning.
The afternoon programme featured an interactive practical session moderated by the Adviser to the Rector of Kyrgyz State Technical University (KSTU). Participants explored a variety of digital tools that support collaboration, project-based learning, student engagement, and active participation in the classroom. European examples of digital learning environments were demonstrated, followed by a discussion on their applicability within the Kyrgyz higher education context. The first day concluded with a plenary discussion and a summary of the key messages.
Day 2: Curriculum Design, Assessment, and Institutional Readiness
The second day focused on curriculum development and institutional approaches to integrating digital technologies into higher education.
The opening session examined how digital learning activities can be effectively aligned with learning outcomes, teaching methods, and assessment strategies. The Associate Professor of Smart Factories at the University of Calabria (Italy) introduced the concept of constructive alignment and presented European case studies demonstrating how digital tools can improve student engagement, collaborative learning, and the development of professional competencies.
The following session addressed quality assurance and institutional frameworks necessary for sustainable digital transformation. Participants discussed quality assurance principles for digitally-enhanced curricula, institutional readiness, staff capacity development, digital infrastructure, and the integration of digitalisation into programme accreditation and recognition processes.
During the second practical session, moderated by the Adviser to the Rector of Kyrgyz State Technical University (KSTU), participants worked in groups to design elements of digitally-enhanced courses and modules. They developed learning outcomes, selected appropriate digital learning activities, and identified assessment methods that support practice-oriented and interdisciplinary learning. The practical exercise encouraged peer learning, collaborative problem-solving, and the exchange of institutional experiences.
Throughout the two-day seminar, participants actively exchanged experiences, discussed challenges and opportunities related to digital transformation, and explored practical approaches to integrating digital technologies into higher education in line with European practices.
The National Erasmus+ Office in the Kyrgyz Republic expresses its sincere appreciation to the Associate Professor of Smart Factories at the University of Calabria (Italy), the Adviser to the Rector of Kyrgyz State Technical University (KSTU), the HERE members, and all participants for their valuable contributions and active engagement. The seminar reaffirmed the importance of international cooperation, pedagogical innovation, and digital transformation in advancing the quality and relevance of higher education in Kyrgyzstan.
