On June 2–3, 2025, a delegation from the Kyrgyz Republic took part in a regional Erasmus+ seminar held in Rabat, Morocco. The event, titled “The End of Degrees? Micro-credentials, Skills, Employability”, focused on the transformation of higher education, the rising importance of micro-credentials, and improving graduate employability.

The seminar was hosted by the International University of Rabat and Mohammed V University, bringing together over 60 higher education professionals from Eastern Partnership countries, Central Asia, the Southern Mediterranean, and the Western Balkans.

The Kyrgyz delegation included Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) from the Erasmus+ programme:
– Svetlana Sirmbard, Rector of Adam University
– Amangeldi Zhumadilov, President of Salymbekov University

The seminar addressed the global shift from traditional degree-based education toward flexible, modular learning models designed to meet the evolving demands of the labor market. Key topics included the role of micro-credentials in enhancing employability and reskilling, the digital transformation of universities, collaboration with EdTech platforms, accreditation standards such as EQF and EQA, and the recognition of digital micro-credentials across borders.

Morocco’s experience was highlighted through the Académie Raqmya national platform, which promotes digital skills development and expands access to certified learning opportunities at the national level.

The Kyrgyz delegation explored international best practices and considered ways to integrate flexible and modern educational formats into the national system. Delegates emphasized the relevance of introducing digital certification tools and aligning education more closely with labor market needs.

The seminar served as an important platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening international partnerships, and deepening Kyrgyzstan’s integration into global higher education trends.
