The International Medical Faculty of Osh State University, in cooperation with the National Erasmus+ Office in Kyrgyzstan, successfully hosted a seminar titled “Digital Technologies and Sustainable Development in Medical Education: The Experience of the International Medical Faculty of Osh State University and Erasmus+ Opportunities.” The event brought together 50 participants from medical and pedagogical universities across southern Kyrgyzstan.
The seminar opened with welcoming remarks from representatives of Osh State University, the Erasmus+ Office, and, where applicable, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic. The keynote presentation by Roman Kalmatov explored best practices for integrating digital tools and sustainability principles within medical education, using the International Medical Faculty’s experience as a case study.
Participants were introduced to Erasmus+ projects such as KyrMedu, BERNICA, and TUTORIAL, which support innovation and capacity-building in biomedical education, nutrition and dietetics, and environmental health across Central Asia.
A dynamic panel discussion followed, focusing on the future of medical education in Kyrgyzstan in the context of digitalization and sustainable development. Afternoon sessions highlighted practical cases, including the use of virtual simulations, telemedicine, green campus initiatives, and the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into curricula.
During a collaborative group work activity, participants developed mini-project proposals for embedding digital and sustainable practices into their home institutions. The seminar concluded with group presentations, expert feedback, certificate distribution, and a group photo session.
This event reaffirmed the importance of regional cooperation and Erasmus+ opportunities in driving forward innovation and sustainability in Kyrgyzstan’s higher medical education system.
