Roundtable Participants: PhD program leaders from Kyrgyz universities, National Team of Higher Education Reform Experts in the Kyrgyz Republic, and representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic
On October 31, 2024, a roundtable on the theme “Development of PhD Programs in Universities of the Kyrgyz Republic” was held at the International University of the Kyrgyz Republic, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic with the support of the National Erasmus+ Office and the National Team of Higher Education Reform Experts. Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, PhD program leaders, experts, and the scientific community participated in the event.
Participants discussed key topics, including the implementation of PhD programs under new regulatory acts, requirements for the structure and content of PhD dissertations, quality assurance issues, criteria and procedures, challenges and prospects of PhD programs for the country’s economy, as well as recommendations for improving PhD programs in Kyrgyz universities.
Based on the discussions, the following recommendations were proposed: support for stronger links between science and business for effective implementation of research, development of research competencies for PhD students and faculty, strengthening international cooperation, including joint research and publications, improving access to scientific resources, and increasing funding levels.
Participants highlighted the importance of high-quality PhD program development for Kyrgyzstan’s scientific and economic growth, as well as the need for increased international recognition of PhD qualifications.
PhD programs play a key role in preparing highly qualified specialists and researchers who can contribute to the academic and research environments in Kyrgyzstan. In today’s conditions, developing PhD programs in Kyrgyz universities is becoming an essential factor in enhancing the country’s competitiveness on the international stage, as well as attracting talented students and scholars to work on relevant scientific and technological projects. Participating in roundtables and collaborating on improving these programs provides universities with support and fresh ideas to enhance the educational process and scientific activities.
