The National Erasmus+ Office in Kyrgyzstan, in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic and Erasmus Mundus Alumni, held a Pre-Departure Orientation Meeting on 15 July 2025 for students selected to pursue Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees (EMJMDs) in Europe.
The event, hosted at the National Erasmus+ Office in Kyrgyzstan, brought together this year’s awardees for an informative and inspiring session aimed at preparing them for their upcoming academic journey abroad. Attendees had the opportunity to learn from both Erasmus+ staff and alumni who successfully completed their studies in various European countries. The meeting aimed to equip students with practical knowledge, emotional preparedness, and a strong support network for their upcoming international academic journey.
The session began with a welcome coffee and informal networking, followed by opening remarks from the National Coordinator of the Erasmus+ Programme in Kyrgyzstan, and the Chair of EMA Kyrgyzstan, who all extended their congratulations and words of encouragement to the new cohort.
During the meeting the following areas were discussed:
- Programme Overview: Erasmus+ staff presented the structure of the EMJMD programme, including mobility between European universities, academic requirements, grant components, and student responsibilities.
- Practical Preparation: Participants received step-by-step guidance on visa application procedures, booking travel, arranging accommodation, purchasing insurance, and preparing for life in their host countries.
- Cultural Integration & Wellbeing: Special attention was given to intercultural communication, mental health, and support services available through universities and Erasmus+ networks.
- Alumni Testimonials: Alumni shared candid reflections on their academic adaptation, cultural challenges, and personal growth, followed by a Q&A session.
- Interactive Exchange: Students introduced their destination countries and fields of study, sparking peer connections and shared excitement.
As a result of the orientation meeting, participants left with greater clarity and confidence about the transition ahead. They received a comprehensive resource package containing checklists, useful links, and key contacts to support their preparations. The event also fostered new connections between outgoing students and returning alumni, creating a foundation for ongoing peer support. The session concluded with heartfelt closing remarks, encouragement from the organizers, and a group photo capturing the start of the scholars’ transformative journey. This annual orientation reflects Erasmus+’s broader mission to build capacity, foster academic excellence, and cultivate globally minded citizens. The Erasmus Mundus programme continues to serve as a vital bridge between Europe and Kyrgyzstan, enhancing mutual understanding and long-term collaboration in higher education.
