On 19 February 2026, the National Erasmus+ Office in the Kyrgyz Republic had the honour of meeting with Members of the European Parliament to discuss the implementation of the Erasmus+ programme in Kyrgyzstan and explore perspectives for its further development.
The meeting provided an important opportunity to present the achievements of Erasmus+ in the Kyrgyz Republic and to highlight its growing role in supporting the modernisation and internationalisation of higher education. The National Coordinator of Erasmus+ Programme in Kyrgyzstan shared key results of Kyrgyzstan’s participation in the programme, including strengthened institutional cooperation between Kyrgyz and European universities, increased academic mobility for students and staff, and the successful implementation of Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) projects.
Particular attention was given to the transformative impact of Erasmus+ on institutional development. Over the years, the programme has contributed to curriculum reform, the introduction of innovative teaching methodologies, digitalisation of academic processes, and the strengthening of quality assurance mechanisms. Academic mobility opportunities have enabled students and university staff to gain international experience, enhance professional competencies, and build sustainable partnerships with European institutions.
The discussion also focused on future perspectives and strategic priorities. Participants explored ways to further expand Kyrgyzstan’s participation in Erasmus+, enhance inclusiveness and equal access to programme opportunities, and increase awareness among regional higher education institutions. The importance of aligning Erasmus+ activities with ongoing national reforms in higher education was emphasised, particularly in areas such as digital transformation, green development, and sustainable governance.
Members of the European Parliament expressed their interest in the continued engagement of Kyrgyz institutions within the Erasmus+ framework and acknowledged the programme’s role in fostering people-to-people connections, intercultural dialogue, and long-term cooperation between the European Union and Central Asia.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to strengthening collaboration and ensuring the effective, transparent, and high-quality implementation of Erasmus+ activities in Kyrgyzstan. The National Erasmus+ Office underscored its readiness to continue supporting higher education institutions, promoting best practices, and facilitating dialogue between national stakeholders and European partners.
The National Erasmus+ Office in the Kyrgyz Republic highly appreciates the constructive exchange with Members of the European Parliament and looks forward to further deepening cooperation for the benefit of students, academic communities, and young people across the country.
