On 2 February 2026, a meeting was held between the National Coordinator of the Erasmus+ Programme in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic. The meeting served as an important platform for discussing the progress and future implementation of two Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) projects, with a particular focus on water diplomacy and green skills development (Green KG and Water Diplomacy).
During the discussions, special attention was given to the strategic role of higher education institutions in addressing pressing global and regional challenges, including climate change, sustainable water management, and the transition towards a green economy. The parties exchanged views on how Erasmus+ CBHE projects can contribute to strengthening academic capacity, modernising curricula, and enhancing institutional cooperation at both national and international levels.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches and international academic cooperation in the fields of water diplomacy and green skills. These areas were recognised as key priorities for sustainable development in the Kyrgyz Republic and the wider Central Asian region, requiring close collaboration between universities, public institutions, and international partners.
Furthermore, the participants discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation within the Erasmus+ framework, including increased involvement of academic staff and students, development of innovative educational modules, and the promotion of best European practices adapted to local and regional contexts. Emphasis was placed on the long-term impact of CBHE projects in strengthening institutional capacities and supporting policy-relevant education and research.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepening collaboration, ensuring the effective implementation of ongoing Erasmus+ CBHE projects, and exploring new opportunities for future initiatives. Both sides reaffirmed their strong support for the Erasmus+ Programme as a key instrument for fostering innovation, sustainability, and international cooperation in higher education.
