The guide was announced in September 2020 as part of the Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027) and its implementation marks a vital step in giving our young people a voice online as they connect with each other and contribute to our dynamic democracy.

Increasing digital literacy and combating misinformation in classrooms and schools have never been more important than it is today. Both teachers/teachers and students, regardless of school level or type of school, are navigating an increasingly complex online environment of reading, listening, and seeing far more than ever before. And this guide offers specific, practical guidance for teachers/educators. As such, it does not offer prescriptions or axioms but rather aims to provide practical support for teaching in classrooms and similar educational settings.
This guide is supplemented by an Expert Group report highlighting important insights identified during the development of the guide, key initiatives at the EU and Member State level, and an overview of existing programs.

The guide has been developed by the European Commission with the support of the Expert Group on Countering Misinformation and Digital Literacy through Education and Training, under the guidance of consultants working with the consultancy company ECORYS.
