An information event dedicated to advancing green and digital transformation in higher education was held at Kyrgyz State Medical Academy named after I.K. Akhunbaev (KSMA) on April 1, 2026. The event was organized by the Green and Digital Office of the university within the framework of the national initiative “Caravan of the Green and Digital University” and the Erasmus+ Programme Capacity Building in Higher Education project “Green and Digital Universities for Sustainable Development of Kyrgyzstan (GreenKG)”.
The event brought together university staff, students, and stakeholders interested in sustainable development, digitalization, and environmental initiatives in higher education. The main objective of the session was to present the progress and achievements of KSMA in implementing green and digital approaches, as well as to raise awareness of ongoing initiatives under the GreenKG project.

The programme began with opening remarks delivered by the Head of the Green and Digital Office at KSMA, who highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability principles and digital solutions into university management and academic processes. A welcoming speech was also delivered by the National Coordinator of the Erasmus+ Programme in Kyrgyzstan, who emphasized the role of Erasmus+ projects in supporting institutional development, innovation, and international cooperation in the country.
During the session, a presentation was delivered by a university representative on the “Strategy for Sustainable Development of KSMA named after I.K. Akhunbaev,” with a particular focus on ongoing green and digital initiatives. The speaker outlined the university’s strategic priorities, including environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and the integration of digital technologies into education and administration.
Further presentations showcased the activities of the Green and Digital Office (GDO) at KSMA, including its role in coordinating sustainability efforts, promoting eco-friendly practices, and supporting digital transformation across the institution. Participants were also introduced to the implementation of a mandatory interdisciplinary module aimed at equipping students with knowledge and competencies related to sustainability and digitalization. A separate session focused on the integration of digital technologies into the educational process at KSMA. Speakers presented innovative tools and platforms, including virtual simulation solutions and digital learning environments designed to enhance the quality and accessibility of medical education. Student engagement in sustainability initiatives was also highlighted through a presentation on the organization of an Eco Forum at KSMA, demonstrating the active involvement of students in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices within the university community.
One of the key highlights of the event was a presentation on the “ARCHA POU (Point-of-Use) Unit – Safe Water” initiative, delivered by an international expert from Korea. The session introduced innovative solutions aimed at providing safe drinking water through advanced purification technologies, emphasizing their relevance for public health and sustainable development. The event concluded with a live demonstration of the ARCHA POU Unit system, allowing participants to observe its functionality and practical application. This hands-on component provided valuable insights into how technological solutions can address real-world environmental and health challenges.
Overall, the information session served as an important platform for sharing experiences, promoting best practices, and strengthening the implementation of green and digital initiatives in higher education institutions across Kyrgyzstan.
