In 2025, seven graduate students from Kyrgyzstan have been accepted into prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) programmes, marking another step forward in the internationalisation of higher education in the country. These students will begin their studies at various European universities this autumn, supported either through full scholarships or as self-funded participants.
The selected students represent a diverse range of academic disciplines.Their chosen programmes cover areas such as engineering and technology (mechatronics, cybersecurity, sustainable bioproducts), social sciences(migration, urban development, global psychology), and the arts (film heritage). This reflects the growing interest and competitiveness of Kyrgyz students in interdisciplinary and globally relevant fields of study.
The majority of the students (4 out of 7) have been awarded Erasmus Mundus scholarships – three under the general “main” category and one through the “targeted region” window, which supports students from specific partner countries. The remaining three students are participating as non-scholarship holders, reflecting their strong motivation and commitment to pursue international education opportunities.
Most participants come from leading institutions in Kyrgyzstan, including the American University of Central Asia, Kyrgyz State Technical University, the University of Central Asia, and Kyrgyz National University. In addition, two other Kyrgyz nationals – currently residing or studying in Hungary and the United States – have also been accepted into EMJMD programmes.Though based abroad, they maintain strong ties to Kyrgyzstan and are proud representatives of the country on the global academic stage.
The majority of this year’s cohort are women. Host universities are located in six different countries: Germany, Sweden, France, Belgium, Poland, and Portugal – demonstrating the geographical breadth of Erasmus Mundus partnerships.
This achievement reflects the continued engagement of Kyrgyz students in European higher education and underscores the role of Erasmus Mundus as a key driver of academic mobility and excellence.
We warmly congratulate all the selected students and wish them a successful and enriching academic journey in Europe!
